Marilene was born in Alexandria, Egypt and lived in Europe (Italy) and the Middle East. After she arrived in Nashua in 1980, her first paintings were inspired by her degrees in Interior Design and Architecture and her taste for enigmatic, colorful images.
Although she started with landscapes, her personal preferences lead to a distinctive style, born from the art imagery she encountered, Influenced by Medieval, Russian, Asian, Indian and Persian Art. She could visualize her secret world with different applications of paint, not following the usual trends of art common in the many art galleries she was visiting. Her work is an exploration of different mediums, watercolors, acrylics, acryla gouache and inks on paper, casein on wood, normal varnishes and resins, water medias and oils.
Since 1981, she has been constantly researching the creative side of painting, has been involved with many galleries, countless art exhibits in the New England area, and has been a long-time member and current president of the Nashua Area Artists Association. In 2006 and 2008 she received awards from the Currier Museum of Art for her figurative paintings, in 2011 became a member of the Copley Society of Boston, had appearances at the Currier and the Whistler Art Museum, and gave many talks and demos about the process of art.
The paintings I selected for this exhibition are about the Theatre. I tried to convey and relate many of my experiences with the theatre seen through Medieval windows where people get transformed, magnified, colored, going from normal people to giants of a new world born from the Imagination of poets and writers. A new world of our making where everything is possible.
